I’ve blogged a few times about the power of counting your blessings. Write down 3 to 5 gratefuls a day for a month and you’ll definitely feel happier. In fact, you’ll feel a huge difference in about 2 weeks if you do this consistently. Thinking about what we have and focusing on all of the good in our lives gives us a sense of abundance instead of lack.
Thanksgiving is such a beautiful way to acknowledge all that you have, all that you’re thankful for, and all of the wonderful people in your lives. I like to go around the table at Thanksgiving and have everyone say what they’re thankful for.
I hope you all have a wonderful and beautiful holiday, filled with love. Happy Thanksgiving! xoxo Tracy
Chocolate Superfood Smoothie
Serves 1
1/2 c. young coconut meat
1 c. ice
3 c. coconut water
1 Tbsp. maca powder
1 Tbsp. raw cacao powder
1/4 c. Goji berries
1 Tbsp. organic hemp seeds
1 tsp. Spirulina Crystal Flakes
1/4 c. raw cacao nibs
5 pitted Medjool dates
1 Tbsp. cold-pressed coconut oil
2 Tbsp. raw agave nectar (optional) (I find Agave to be unnecessary when you use Medjool dates. The dates are very sweet. You’ll see.)
Place all ingredients into the blender, except ice, and blend until smooth. Add ice; blend for a few seconds. Pour into a glass.

I had an appointment with a new doctor last week. He seems like a great doctor and a good guy but I felt a bit unsure about him. Why? It was because of his weak handshake. When I was growing up, my father always told me how much he disliked anyone who had a limp handshake. Men with weak handshakes were less “manly”. Women with limp handshakes were “princesses”.
I was talking about the handshake thing today with my boyfriend. He feels the same way about the handshake and he thinks his feelings about it are a “blue collar” thing. I think it could also be generational. The idea of the handshake being cultural or socioeconomic is quite interesting to me. My father was a WWII vet. There are many things that he taught me that aren’t common ideas for people of my generation.
The bottom line is that you only have one chance to make a first impression. The way you shake someone’s hand will say a lot about you, whether you realize it or not.
I’m curious about your thoughts on the handshake. Please leave comments and let me know.
Have you seen Kelly Osbourne (Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter) lately? She looks absolutely incredible. If you want to see what she looks like now, pick up the December 2010 issue of “Shape” magazine. The whole article about her is interesting but I couldn’t resist letting you guys know what she says she eats almost every day.
Breakfast: Raisin Bran with lowfat milk or to egg whites with lowfat cheese.
Snack: Sliced Cucumbers or dill pickles
Lunch: Grilled chicken salad with lowfat dressing or chopped salad with lowfat mozzarella and chickpeas.
Snack: Sugar-free Jell-O or Babybel Light cheese
Dinner: Turkey burger with lowfat cheese and a salad with lowfat dressing.
Snack: An apple or a small spinach salad with lowfat dressing.
She also drinks water instead of soda.
Many of you have heard about the “Law of Attraction”. It’s been around forever but it became popular with the general public due to a book called The Secret. Unfortunately, many people took this idea to mean that if you sat around and wished for something, it would just come true. The whole concept seemed like some sort of mystical, made up thing.
The fact is that the law of Attraction is a very real thing. It’s been called many things including The Power of Positive thinking. Make no mistake. This idea isn’t simply to just have an optimistic outlook. It’s a lot more powerful than that. The basic idea of all of this is that your thoughts attract and shape your life. What you are thinking about is what you’re drawing or attracting to you and your life.
Here’s how I like to think of it and how I explain it to my clients. Have you ever heard of something new before and then suddenly that thing seems to appear everywhere? For example, you hear the name of a color that you’ve never heard of before. Suddenly you see the color on a billboard and the name of the color in a magazine article. Then your friend brings it up in conversation. This isn’t happening because of something mystical. This is happening because now that you’ve heard of it, you’re focusing on it. Once something is on your mind, you’re paying attention to it. Once you’re paying attention to it, you notice it whenever it comes up in your radar.
This works the same way in your dating life. I just started reading a book called Meeting Your Half Orange by Amy Spencer. The book is about using the power of positive thinking/law of attraction to find the right (for you) romantic partner. She says that “We attract what we think about, focus on, and feel.” Remember this. If your thoughts are that you’re not attractive enough to find someone or that you’re too old or that all of the good ones are taken, you will be completely right. If your thoughts are that dating is easy and that it won’t be problem and there are lots of great people out there, you’ll find that special someone. Positive thoughts affect your entire demeanor. When someone feels good about him or herself, they exude that confidence and people feel good being around them. That attracts very nice people into your life. Think about the woman you see out somewhere who’s smiling and laughing. She looks pretty and happy. The woman who’s depressed, will have a crease between her eyes and hunched shoulders. Why would anyone want to be around that person?
Here’s an example from my own life. When I decided that it was time for me to start dating again, I met someone pretty quickly. He’s a really, really great guy. I couldn’t be happier. I didn’t think it would be a problem. I sincerely believe that there are single people at every stage of life, looking to meet someone. There aren’t millions of them. There are billions of them. My two closest friends are single. They both feel that they’re too old and that all of the good ones are taken. Both of these women have a lot going for them and they’re very pretty. The one who refuses to see life any other way, hasn’t met one person since she broke up with her last boyfriend. She’s just convinced that there’s no one out there. The other friend had the same thoughts but she changed her mind. She decided to go online. At first, she thought it was terrible and that there’s just no one out there. Some things started changing for her and she started to see that there were a lot of “nice” guys out there that she could see herself being friends with. She started having a good feeling about it and just started feeling good about herself and her life. One month later, she told me that it’s unbelievable how many great, single guys are out there. Her outlook changed and then her life changed.
It works. Think of all of the great things that you have going for you, hold your head high, and be open to finding your perfect match.
Write down your short and long-term GOALS four times a year. Two personal, two business, and two health goals for the next 1, 5, and 10 years. Goal setting triggers your subconscious computer. (I tell clients to do 1, 3, and 5 years. Sometimes the 10 year is just too difficult. Give it a try.)
I’m reading an interesting book call The Green Foods Bible by David Sandoval. I learned something that I never knew. There are foods that are considered to be green that aren’t actually the color green. Here’s a section directly out of his book.:
“Green” Foods That Aren’t Actually Green
Here’s some trivia about red cabbage: Although it’s a deep purple color, it’s really and truly a green food-because the purple pigments that give it its beautiful hue are photosynthetic pigments. Chlorophyll usually shows up as green, but it doesn’t always show up that way. The flesh of a red cabbage is an excellent source of chlorophyll.
The same goes for watermelon. The ruby-red, sweet flesh of that melon you cut open on a hot August afternoon is loaded with chlorophyll.
I just read an article in the November 2010 issue of “Self” magazine called “20 Sizzling Sex Secrets”. One piece of information really caught my attention. According to Celeo Crewell, author of Mathematics and Sex, twelve exes seems to be the magic number. She goes on to say that “Mathematics is the study of patterns, and studying the patterns in your past relationships-traits your exes share, recurring problems, and the things that went right-helps you better understand how to make the next one work.” Crewell’s equations showed that, for most women, it takes 12 partners to get enough of the info you need. And, if you use those clues, you have a 75 percent chance of finding the guy who, plus you, equals love.
The Green Smoothie for Day 3 was 1 Young Thai coconut (the water and the meat), a big handful of baby spinach, and ice. It was great. Unfortunately, I’m having a health issue that I have to deal with before continuing the fast. I’ll start all over again within the next few days. Stay tuned…
My workout yesterday was rough. It was my first day back in the gym. I did really well for the first 40 minutes and then I got very nauseous. When I got back, I ate a banana. I think that I just didn’t eat enough before the workout. I think that a couple of smoothies a day that I make during this time need to have some type of nut protein in them. I’ll either use almond milk that I make myself, cashew milk for a treat or a tablespoon of some type of raw nut butter.
Now for what’s happening on day 2. This morning I woke up with a headache and I felt totally nauseous. Both of these things could be happening because I’m detoxing. I’m not sure. We’ll have to wait and see. I ate a banana and then I made a smoothie a couple of hours later.
Recipe for Day 2 Smoothie:
1 Peach, 1 scoop of chocolate whey protein powder, a big handful of spinach, 1 tablespoon of raw cashew powder, water, ice.
It was delicious and I’m feeling much better. I’m thinking that the cashew butter gave me enough healthy fat and protein. This green smoothie fast is an experiment. I’m sure it will take about 5 days to get the proper balance of what’s right for me. Remember that everyone is different which is why I’m reluctant to tell you how many smoothies I’m having a day. The answer to that is that there is no set number. If I’m hungry, I make one. I don’t think it’s necessary to have an exact limit. In terms of loosing way, I’d say to watch the nut and nut butter intake but that’s about it.
Let me know if you have any questions or if there’s a green smoohie recipe you think I should try.
I’m back from my trip and today is day one of my green smoothie fast. It’s November 1st. I made a smoothie this morning with 1 honey crisp apple, a handful of kale, 1 scoop of whey protein powder, and water. I’m now on my 2nd one of these. I can tell you that as of right now, I’m not feeling too great. I’m used to one cup of coffee in the morning. I can definitely tell the difference without it. This day is a bit tough to judge because I just got back from CA and I’m still feeling the time change. My sleep is just off. In a few minutes, I’m going to the gym. Let’s see how that goes. Hopefully I’ll be feeling better tomorrow. On the plus side, this smoothie tastes great and I’m not craving anything else. If you have any thoughts or questions, please post your comments. xoxo Tracy
